Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.
Items that have weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with strong bases, such as Titans from eth, have no changes in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an attribute bonus or extra effect while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, found in loot, thrown away by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player must select it and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected upgrade stats will be and also the component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.
There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which comprise gems, can be placed in any type of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are gems that can only be used in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same bonuses as jewels, however they cannot be used with any other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, add their names to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for example adding a Glyph to the Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor will make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the case of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph with a different one the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will destroy it, with the exception of the inscriptions that can be swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from previous versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before being "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, but the materials required for upgrades do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a few important items to maximize their impact instead of spreading the upgrade costs across multiple items.
When an item is completed in this way, it is capable of receiving a new set of upgrade components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy, and it resets to 0 in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade is successful.
When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its maximum level it can be eligible to be given affixes that enhance its capabilities. The amount of affixes available is determined by the item's type. For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon that has a standard base will have only two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade requires the use of a certain amount of Flightstones and crests, depending on the item's current level and the item slot it's in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.
If an item does not reach its max level The NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to a different person and then re-infuse the item with an upgrade set that is different. This process takes up to two hours and will cost the same amount of material however it will have lower chances of success.
To determine the height of a structure, engineers will use a level to compare the measurement to a known reference point such as a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be done in rare cases.
Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or another item of the same type. Recyclable items have a gauge that shows the level of upgrade. The rarity and cost of upgrading an item will determine the amount of level filled.
In the past, some upgrade item s had priority affixes that made them easier to roll for than others. It meant that you'd get the stats most important to your build more frequently than others. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns, and control impaired duration reduced stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and strike chance.
This was changed in the latest patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for all stats. This can be a great or a negative thing depending on your needs and wants from your equipment.
Each upgraded item may also be equipped with a special, fixed-value bonus that increases its power by a certain percentage. These bonuses are rolled in addition to the usual affixes. The more you improve a product, the higher your chances of receiving an exclusive bonus.
The game also includes various sets that offer a set-based bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on a unit. This is a great method to add a lot of power to a particular character without spending an excessive amount of money.
Many players opt to reroll their equipment and weapons, especially in the early stages of the game. Rerolling is a method to get a more powerful character faster, allowing you to progress in the game and reach higher tiers.
Sets
Sets are collections of elements that can be organized in different ways. They can be of various sizes, contain no elements at all or have a single element.
