World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all item tooltips. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.
The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
It's not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by adding a name.
Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn with the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
Note that item upgrade s are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
